Summer Fun, continued...

Some highlights from our time in Appleton during the month of August. Jordy got to spend a lot of time playing outside with cousins (the first week) and Grandma and Grandpa Hyatt! We really feel so blessed that it worked out to do my internship in Appleton- even if that meant being apart from Tyler-it ended up working well to allow me to finish my clinical requirements and not put off Tyler starting school...and Jordy LOVED the extra attention! Luckily I had earned a lot of hours the first few weeks, so toward the end of August, I was able to do shorter days and spend some time with Jordy outside as well!

 Jordy did his 1st Home Depot project in Appleton...

...but let's be honest here- his favorite part of the project was getting a sucker at the end!! :)

And for SURE he enjoys watching the Green Bay Packers! He'd stop what he was doing and sit down and yell "football" as soon as it came on TV!

 Jordy is just a bit obsessed with balls! Even with all the toys at Grandma and Grandpa's house-- he was most content to be playing with a ball (inside or outside!) He has amazing accuracy for a 1 year-old! :) (Tyler LOVES that he is so content running and throwing and kicking balls...I just wish I had the same amount of energy Jordy has!)

Summer Fun

I started my internship at the skilled nursing facility in Appleton the last week of July. It was pretty rough the first few days: standing for 10+ hours, surrounded by questionable smells, watching patients eating pureed food or drinking nectar-thick liquids, getting used to seeing half-dressed individuals and either getting sworn at or hit-on by patients in the memory-care unit. I also quickly realized that unfortunately, so much of what an SLP does in that type of setting is determined by insurance or who is paying, regardless if they could really benefit or not from therapy. SO- needless to say, it wasn't my favorite setting (not to mention the actual facility was in desperate need of remodeling and was super understaffed so the SLP I was working with ended up doing a lot of "non-SLP-duties"). However, I was able to get a lot of hours initially and the location was convenient and my parents were so gracious with being willing to watch Jordy each day- so it was worth it to endure it for about 9 weeks to be able to finish.

Tyler drove the moving truck to Madison with his dad the second week of August. They came up to Appleton and we visited Green Bay with Grandpa Davis, then Jordy and I went down to Madison for the weekend before we started our "dual residences" phase: Tyler living in Madison as he started school while Jordy and I stayed in Appleton as I was finishing my internship and then we'd see each other on the weekends.

We also stopped by Bay Beach again to show Grandpa Davis...and Jordy seemed to like the Merry-Go-Round a little more!

Carly and Brad were also in WI that week and came with us to Green Bay. (They drove our mini-van to WI for us-- which was a big help!) They took Jordy on the Ferris Wheel (Tyler and I were more than happy to let them do that-- neither of us are big fans of spinning around anymore!)

We took Grandpa Davis to a little cafe on the Fox River for lunch. (A must-see in the Fox Cities!) We are so so grateful for his willingness to drive with Tyler and help so much with packing and moving...as well as all the support and encouragement from the Davis family--even though we were moving so far away :( We literally couldn't have done this without you! Thank you so SO much for everything! We miss you! 

Tyler in Madison

I am so proud of Tyler for not only his hard work to get into multiple MBA programs, but also for making the arrangements to move states and start his program in Madison, to adapt so quickly to a new school, city, and people, and put in long hours each day doing things I could never do- such as constantly talking to new people and acting interested! :) The first semester is said to be the hardest, with 18 credits, a big group project to work on all semester, long days of class and then many evenings having networking events. He was also working as a project assistant (13 hours a week). But he took it all in stride and still found time to visit us or let us come visit him! (He is one of 2 people in his program that is married and has kid(s)-- so the long hours and evening time commitments aren't as big a deal for others-- but he's been doing a good job balancing it all without complaint).

Jordy in Madison

Because I was hardly in Madison and Tyler was gone all day most days, not a lot of unpacking was getting done. And the few times Jordy and I were in Madison- it was hard to get a lot done...with this big helper around!!!

On WISCONSIN!

Jordy and I said "goodbye" to Utah (and Tyler) on the 17th and started the 23-hour drive with my parents. I was a little nervous for how Jordy would be for that long in the car, but with a few quick stops and access to lots of toys, he actually did very well.

Once we made it to WI the adventures began! :) My sister Rachel and her kids from MN came over for three weeks for swimming lessons and to play! I had a week before my internship started, so I even got to play too! :) One of the great things with digital pictures is not having to worry about how many pictures I'm taking at one time-- but that also creates a challenge: Lots of pictures to sort through! So here begins the "dumping" of some of our July summer adventures!

Jordy and Marshall were quite the pair of hooligans on rides...one was either trying to stand up or touch the wheels-- but it was entertaining to watch! :)

Then they got to face each other...which was just as comical! 

He loved getting to go on the helicopters with Grandma!

Jordy seemed to be on a mission to empty the pool scoop by scoop...up the ramp nonetheless! It kept him busy :) 

Playing, playing, playing! 

Jordy and Marshall weren't always the best of friends...

As much as Jordy enjoyed running after his cousins on the slides and playground equipment, he always ended up getting his ball out and wanted to play with that- throwing, kicking, shooting...even just watching someone else throwing the ball up high! He actually had some decent dribbling skills :)

Unfortunately, the hoops were a little high for him still-- but every time we went to the school to play he had to give it a try! (He's just a bit obsessed with basketball hoops!)

Another favorite: movie nights! (Jordy didn't really sit long enough to watch a movie--he just got excited for all the treats he got to eat!) 

Speaking of yummy treats, Jordy got lots of yummy treats this summer...
