"You don't talk much...I like you!"(Ellie to Carl on UP)
We met in Zion - - Zion National Park! Some of our friends had organized a trip to southern Utah in June 2011 and we spent the day hiking- making it to the top of Angel's Landing. It was very hot and we were sweaty, dirty, and tired by the end of the day...not quite "love at first sight" but we had a good time!
About a week later, we went to the Manti pageant and made several important discoveries:
1. Once Maren gets talking, there's no stopping her
2. We both loved to laugh...a LOT and spent most of the drive doing so!
3. This was a date (not originally planned to be one)
4. We had a lot in common (maybe not favorite football teams at that time, but we could agree on enjoying the sport!)
5. Maren owned all seasons of Prison Break and Tyler made it known that he hadn't seen it, but wanted to...
And- from there- the rest is history :)
We spent the rest of the summer spending almost every day together- watching Man from Snowy River (a very good sign from the beginning!), all seasons of Prison Break, going to rodeos, hiking, and eating lots of ice-cream! We were engaged in December and married in the Salt Lake Temple April 19, 2012.
Oh- and here's just a fun side note: I had to make a short group video for a class in my program at BYU and after we were married, we discovered that our paths may have crossed before we realized it! (Take note of the person in blue sitting at the random table in the library we chose to film at...look familiar?!)
